Standard pallet dimensions

The global baseline covers five dominant footprints, codified in ISO 6780 for cross-region compatibility.

Region / name Size (mm) Size (in) Typical height Notes
US GMA (CBA) 1219 × 1016 48 × 40 ≈140–165 mm Four-way entry, ~2,500 lb dynamic load [Uline]
Euro EPAL 1 1200 × 800 47.2 × 31.5 144 mm EPAL certified, 1,500 kg load [EPAL]
Euro Industrial (EPAL 2) 1200 × 1000 47.2 × 39.4 144 mm Favoured for wider cases [EPAL]
Australia (AS 4068) 1165 × 1165 45.9 × 45.9 ≈150 mm Optimised for AU rail and DCs [Standards]
Asia / ISO 1100 1100 × 1100 43.3 × 43.3 ≈150 mm Maximises 40ft HC capacity [Q-Pall]

Need less common ISO formats? ISO 6780 also recognises 1000×1200 mm, 1067×1067 mm, and half-pallet options. Compare materials in the plastic pallets hub or wooden pallets hub.

Standard pallet height & clearance

Height is driven by deck board thickness, stringer blocks, and whether a pallet has bottom boards. Expect the following ranges when validating door clearances or rack beams:

  • US GMA: Most pooled pallets sit around 5.5–6.5 in tall. Variants with heavier deck boards trend higher [Kamps].
  • Euro EPAL: Fixed at 144 mm including chamfers, so you can model TI‑HI precisely [EPAL].
  • AU / Asia plastics: Injection-moulded export pallets hover near 150 mm; check spec sheets if nestable feet collapse when empty.

Synchronise pallet height with max stack policies inside the calculator to avoid clipping sprinkler lines or container ceilings.

FAQ

What are the dimensions of a standard pallet?

North American supply chains revolve around 48×40 in (1219×1016 mm) GMA pallets with four-way entry. They balance grocery, CPG, and distribution rack spacing.

What are the dimensions of a Euro pallet?

The EPAL Euro (EPAL 1) pallet measures 1200×800×144 mm and carries 1,500 kg safely when inspected per EPAL standards. See the full Euro pallet size guide for markings and load detail.

What is the standard pallet height?

Expect about 5.5–6.5 in (140–165 mm) for wooden US pallets and 144 mm for Euro pallets. Always request the manufacturer’s spec sheet before designing racking.

How do ISO standard pallet sizes work?

ISO 6780 narrows the list to a handful of footprints so pallets nest neatly in containers and on racking worldwide: 1200×800, 1200×1000, 1000×1200, 1100×1100, 1067×1067, and 1140×1140 mm.
