Common planning footprints include 48 × 40 in in North America, 1200 × 800 mm in Europe, 1165 × 1165 mm in Australia and Japan’s 1100 × 1100 mm 11-type pallet. A footprint is not a complete product specification.

Before you calculate

A footprint is not a complete pallet specification

Length and width tell a layout tool how much floor area the pallet occupies. They do not determine pallet height, deck and runner construction, fork-entry geometry, material, condition, certification or safe load. EPAL 1 and EPAL 2 are named products with published dimensions; a generic 48 × 40 in or 1165 × 1165 mm footprint can describe many different products.

What are the dimensions of a standard US pallet?

The most common North American planning footprint is 48 × 40 in, exactly 1219.2 × 1016 mm. Height, construction and capacity depend on the pallet product.

Is every 1200 × 800 mm pallet an EPAL pallet?

No. EPAL 1 is a defined 1200 × 800 × 144 mm product with specified construction and markings. A matching footprint alone does not establish EPAL identity.

What is the common Australian pallet size?

1165 × 1165 mm is the common Australian pooled footprint. Product height and load ratings still need to be checked with the supplier or pool.

What is Japan’s 11-type pallet size?

JPR identifies the JIS Z 0601 11-type pool pallet as 1100 × 1100 × 144 mm.

Can I calculate pallet load capacity from dimensions?

No. Capacity depends on construction, material, condition, load distribution and support conditions. Use the exact pallet specification.
