Which plastic pallet should you choose?
Use a nestable export pallet when empty-return volume and low tare matter and the pallet will stay on supported surfaces. Use a stackable pallet when bottom-deck stability and repeated handling matter. Use a rackable model only when its manufacturer rates the exact rack condition, span, direction and load you will use.
No category name guarantees food contact, fire performance, automation compatibility or rack safety. Ask for the model drawing, material, test basis and application limits.

Match the construction to the job
Nestable
Feet enter the deck below when empty, reducing return and storage volume. Many are intended for supported transport rather than unsupported beam racking.
Stackable
Runners or a full lower deck improve load stability and repeated handling. Check pallet-jack entry and conveyor interfaces.
Rackable
Designed for a stated unsupported or edge-rack condition, often with reinforcement. The rating is model- and direction-specific.
Hygiene-focused
Smooth or flow-through designs can simplify cleaning, but the validated wash process, drainage, material and facility requirements still control suitability.

Read load ratings as different test conditions

Static capacity describes a supported pallet at rest. It is not a safe forklift, conveyor or beam-rack limit. Use the lowest applicable limit after accounting for temperature, load concentration, impact, pallet condition and your safety policy.
Step 3
Separate ISPM 15 from other import requirements
ISPM 15 covers wood packaging material made from raw wood. An all-plastic pallet is outside that standard’s scope, so it does not need an ISPM 15 heat-treatment mark. This does not mean every plastic pallet is automatically accepted on every lane: the importer, customer, carrier and sanitation program may impose other requirements.
Step 4
Verify that the seller can transfer ownership
Inspect logos, molded property marks, RFID labels and pool identifiers before buying used pallets. CHEP states that its marked pallets remain CHEP property and are not sold. If a marked pooled asset reaches your site unexpectedly, record the count and location and contact the owner for collection rather than reselling or grinding it.

What is the best type of plastic pallet?
There is no universal best type. Match the pallet to the actual fork entry, conveyor, rack span, load distribution, temperature, hygiene process and return system.
How much weight can a plastic pallet hold?
Use the exact model’s static, dynamic and supported or edge-rack ratings. A footprint such as 48 × 40 inches does not define capacity.
Do plastic pallets need ISPM 15 treatment?
ISPM 15 regulates raw-wood packaging material, so an all-plastic pallet is outside that standard’s scope. Import, customer and sanitation requirements may still apply.
Is it legal to own a plastic pallet?
Ordinary pallets bought from an authorized seller can be owned. A pooled or rented pallet remains subject to the owner’s terms; marked CHEP equipment, for example, remains CHEP property and should be returned.
