This calculator tests axis-aligned rectangular footprints. It does not certify packaging strength, load stability or handling access.

Mixed versus uniform

A mixed layer may use both orientations and can outperform a single rows × columns grid. Compare the three strategy cards before selecting a pattern.

Optimal versus best found

“Proven optimal” means the candidate reaches a valid upper bound or a separately verified fixture. Otherwise the interface says “best found” and shows the upper bound.

Operational review

Pallet configuration questions.

What does cases per layer mean?

Cases per layer is the number of rectangular case footprints placed on one pallet layer under the selected orientation, gap and edge-clearance assumptions.

Does mixed orientation always find the mathematical maximum?

No. The search combines mixed strips and several deterministic MaxRects candidates. It reports “proven optimal” only when the result reaches a valid bound or matches a separately verified fixture; other results are labelled “best found”.

How are pallet layers calculated?

When a maximum loaded height is supplied, full layers equal the whole number of case heights that fit above the pallet height. If no maximum height is supplied, the calculator displays one layer.

Does the diagram prove the load is safe?

No. The diagram checks two-dimensional rectangular geometry only. It does not verify compression strength, stability, overhang policy, weight, securing or handling access.
