Business purchasing guide

Where to buy wood pallets

Buy against a written pallet and condition specification. Manufacturers, recyclers and pool providers serve different needs; no supplier category guarantees dimensions, capacity, export compliance, condition or current availability.

New buildUse a drawing and capacity requirements for repeatable construction.
Used or repairedReplace grade letters with measurable acceptance criteria.
Trade routeConfirm whether ISPM 15 applies before specifying treatment and marks.

Direct answer

Select the supplier type after defining the pallet and route.

Use a pallet manufacturer for a new or custom design, a qualified recycled-pallet supplier for used or repaired stock, and a pool service when the business needs managed ownership and return. Request a dated quote from suppliers that can meet the same drawing, condition and delivery requirements.

Supplier types

Match the source to the operating model

Manufacturer

New wood pallets built to a drawing, construction specification and stated application.

Recycler or remanufacturer

Used, repaired or remanufactured pallets under the buyer’s measurable acceptance criteria.

Pool provider

A service for controlled networks; the asset and return obligations follow the contract.

Marketplace

A lead source only. Verify the seller, title, lot, condition and delivery terms independently.

Purchase specification

Send the same requirement to each supplier

International routes

Confirm the destination before ordering treatment

ISPM 15 regulates specified raw-wood packaging in international trade. Where it applies, buy from an approved program participant and require the correct official mark. Paperwork does not replace the mark, and a previous HT mark does not automatically establish the current status of a repaired or remanufactured pallet.

Quote review

Make condition and landed cost comparable

Grade A, B or premium is not a universal specification.

Ask each supplier to define allowed repairs, missing material, fasteners, contamination, moisture and dimensional tolerances. Compare unit cost together with delivery, pickup, cores, deposits and rejection terms.

Use the current quote methodology.

Review scope

Universal lead times, supplier service claims and grade assumptions were removed. Export guidance now distinguishes destination scope, approved marking and repaired-pallet status.

Common questions

FAQ

Where should a business buy wood pallets?

Use a manufacturer for a defined new design, a qualified recycler for used or repaired stock under written condition criteria, or a pool provider when a managed return network fits the lane.

Do I need heat-treated pallets?

It depends on the destination, route and material. Where ISPM 15 applies to raw-wood packaging, use an approved program participant and the correct official mark.

Is an old HT mark enough on a repaired pallet?

No. Repair and remanufacture can trigger treatment, mark removal and re-marking rules. Obtain current compliance confirmation from an approved supplier.
